Kestikievari &
Korvalan Komea

THIS IS A GREAT PLACE FOR TRADITIONAL FOOD

Korvala has always been a place that has given food and shelter for those needing it, so, for the intrepid travellers of the north, it is equivalent to a roadside inn. It has been in the same family for over one hundred years and is the oldest tourism business in Lapland.

Established in 1889, it functioned first as an inn, then a kestikievari. The word "kestikievari" comes from the Swedish word "gästgiveri" which means "guest-giver".

The restaurant has recently reopened and is named after Seppo's mother, "Korvalan Komea", a nickname from the 1930s which means "Korvala's beautiful one" in the local dialect. "Komea" was also used to describe an impressive building or place.
